What kind of vehicle do I need?
Any higher clearance vehicle with 4WD or AWD should be fine; pickups, SUV’s, crossovers, Subarus, etc. There won’t be any challenging offroad obstacles, but we could come across limited areas of mud, sand, rocky surfaces, etc.
How much hiking will there be?
Depends on the season, route we take, and personal preference. Tours can be semi-customized to include more or less time afoot depending on your group’s wishes.
What should I wear and bring?
Be prepared for anything! Temperatures can range from the high 50°F to 100°F over the course of the day during the spring and summer months; with rain showers possible too. Closed-toe shoes are required.
Highly recommended to bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Plan on at least a gallon of drinking water and extra snacks too. Optional, but nice to have things would be a small backpack, camera gear, binoculars, journal, field guides, walking stick, etc.
How long do the tours last?
Anywhere from 8 to 10 hours depending on what we see and any weather issues we may face.
Is lunch provided?
Yes, a fresh charcuterie-style lunch is provided. That being said, you may want to bring additional snacks and plenty of drinking water.
What about medical emergencies?
Though he holds no current certifications or licenses, Jerry has extensive wilderness emergency medicine training and field experience. Should the unlikely and unfortunate happen, he carries a fully-stocked wilderness medical kit in his vehicle and will act under Good Samaritan Law protocols until EMS arrives.
Can I bring my pet?
Other than legitimate service dogs or SAR/K9 officers, we ask that you please leave your pets at home.
Do you operate tours year round?
Absolutely! Winter is wonderful time to be out in the high desert. Less human traffic, no pesky insects or venomous reptiles, and makes for some fantastic wildlife viewing as many species come down out of the high country to winter at the lower elevations.
Add in a little snow and the landscape takes on an entirely different persona.
